New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has reportedly made the decision to retire from Test cricket, amidst a string of poor performances and struggles with captaincy. With only 31 runs in five matches and no wins in six matches as captain, Sharma has decided to step away from the longer format of the game.

After two failures in the Melbourne Test, where India lost by 285 runs and fell 2-1 behind in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, calls for Rohit Sharma to retire from Test cricket have intensified. His poor form with the bat and the team’s struggles under his captaincy have led to increased speculation about his future in the longest format.

India remains winless in their last six Tests under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, following a humiliating whitewash at home against New Zealand, and defeats in Adelaide and Melbourne. The team was under pressure in the Gabba Test, which ended in a rain-affected draw. India’s only victory during this period came in the Perth Test under Jasprit Bumrah‘s leadership, with Rohit absent due to personal reasons.

Rohit Sharma’s dismal batting form continues, with just 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.2. Since September’s Bangladesh series, the 37-year-old has accumulated only 164 runs in 15 innings, averaging a mere 10.93.

Rohit Sharma Decides On Retirement Date

Amid speculations about his future, a report from *Times of India* suggests that Rohit has decided to retire from Test cricket after the Sydney Test. Despite ongoing discussions with BCCI officials and selectors regarding his retirement, there remains a slim chance that Rohit could be convinced to play the World Test Championship (WTC) final, should India qualify. India’s chances of reaching the 2025 WTC final are now slim and out of their control. India’s hopes of reaching the 2025 World Test Championship final are hanging by a thread, relying on a victory in the Sydney Test. Alongside this, they need Sri Lanka to defeat Australia in their upcoming series to keep their chances alive. A loss would end India’s qualification hopes for the final.
